Hi Bill and Pieter, The problem is the use of the files section by many on this group for posting photos. The Files section is allowed by Yahoo to have only 100MB of space, while the Photos section is allotted 100 GB. The Files section is for text based material (.doc, .pdf, etc.) which is usually far less space consuming than even the smallest of photos (.jpg, .tif, .gif, etc.), plus the Photos section also has a lot of features that make dealing with and searching for photos easier. I see that there are many photos posted in the files section, and many of them are years old and out of date, thus wasting precious space. This is a problem on several groups I belong to, and it is common for the members to continue posting their photos in the Files section (until it fills up). The only way to solve the problem is to make sure that all members abide by the simple rule of "no pictures allowed in the files department (unless they are contained in a text document)". It will likely require a firm hand by list administrators.
While I'm on a rant, let me also say that there is no good reason for this group to block attachments either. Yahoo changed the way they handle Attachments several years ago, and the system now stores any attachments on Yahoo servers and does not send them out to individual email boxes. What does get sent out is a very small thumbnail (created by Yahoo) which acts as a link to access the attachments on the Yahoo server. This way, there is no wasted bandwidth on member's computers, nor is there a risk of viruses going out. I belong to many groups that have begun to allow attachments since this change was implemented, and NONE of them have had any problems, in spite of much howling by some members during discussions prior to making the change.
