While the 50 foot coastal freighter might look like a caricature, compared to
some of the stuff I've seen floating around the Caribbean the past 40 years, it
is downright plausible. Sure, it uses the HO hull with an S superstructure,
but many real boats/ships are made in a variety of lengths sometimes giving
them a caricature look. Given the limited space on my portable switching
layout harbor, 2' x 2' , that has two wharfs and a car float, this model is
about all that will fit. Bt the way, the steel barges are not yet shown on the
website, but are in a catalog sheet they sent me with the parts order. they
also indicate that a line of wood barges are on the way. Since barges come in
many sizes, these are usable across a number of scale.
