The Frenchman River "Steamer" is based on a "Clyde Puffer", a type of ship
which works the islands around the river Clyde in Scotland. The design appears
to be unique, and at a minimum, the builder should reverse the wheel house and
stack so the stack is behind the wheel house. At that point, it resembles a
small work boat or lighter, and is more reasonable for use in an American
harbor.

It also worth mentioning that the Lionel railroad tug offered in several paint
schemes a few years ago, is really S scale rather than O. The Santa Fe version
is often available at a reasonable price, being less popular than the east
coast (B&O, NYC and PRR) paint schemes.

Open barges or "scows" do work well across scales, as long as the bits and
other details are reasonable sizes. Those with cabins or covered barges are a
bit more problematic, and a car float that holds fewer than three cars on a
single track is rather odd looking.
