Okay, what has twelve feet, but only seven legs?

It's the new modules I've been building for several weeks now! This is
happening while still waiting for the weather to cool down--(lot's of
luck with that). The two modules combine to make twelve feet in
length. The mainlines curve toward the viewers thus leaving room for
two passing tracks holding cars for a (future) large grain elevator and
a yet unnamed manufacturing plant on the backside. A road will cross
the layout at one end so I can position my Pine Canyon gas station and
perhaps a small cafe.

Now, I'll get to the seven legs part... Peter Vanvliet was drafted to
make up legs and a series of shaped wooden chunks of 2 x 4 that make
into sockets. Jack Troxell had worked up the original design as well
as, a couple of jigs to easily make them. I borrowed them, but
discovered my 'foreign' made table saw didn't have the correct size slot
on the bed. Peter said he could make them for me plus some for
himself. Somehow in the transporting of the materials back to my
garage, one of the tapered sections became misplaced, so when it came
time to flip the modules and install the assemblies, it was missing a
link. So I installed just the seven! Yesterday afternoon the missing
chunk magically appeared, so sometime I'll get it installed.

I took a couple of photos of the progress but forgot them on the way in,
so perhaps I can get them uploaded tomorrow.

These marathon sessions are for a train-show coming up in two weeks. By
the time we finish we will have 30 modules with most being 6' in length
(we started with 10). The vast majority of our track is all hand-laid
code #100 with custom turnouts. I don't have a wealth of experience in
hand-laying track, so it takes me some time to get it right. I also
have a problem that has developed over the years where my right eye
distorts straight lines, so even if I laid straight track, I wouldn't
know it!
