Will some here were grinding on yesterday about various shades of non- S
SCALE American Flyer voodoo topics, I did something rather novel. I MODELED.
You should try it some time. I say it is fun. I worked on a scratchbuilt
Erie mill gondola built by Stan Furmanak I bought at the Get Together.
http://www.lanestrains.com/Erie_Gondola.jpg It is stunning as you would
expect from Stan complete with brake rigging and piping. For the record I am
not copying this car but could easily have a few more of them even if it is
an Erie only car. It is just flipping gorgeous.

I would say it was intended to be a display model for Stan, or at the very
least not to be used in a 100 car train. It had Sergent Couplers. If you
coupled them to a train you would have pulled the not yet glued end sills
out and the car would have remained stationary. I shoehorned in SHS couplers
and tied them to the rest of the car with brass strip. Otherwise the
couplers would have likely ripped out in the first good pull of a train. It
is not as pretty as Stan's original job but is much more functional for my
use.

The car was rather light as well. Since the wood bracing for the bridge
girder load was already bruised I reworked it. The load now weighs a good
bit more due to it being fully lined with lead car tire weights.

I was surprised at the sparse wood bracing when I got it for such a load.
But a friend sent a photo of a PRR G26c with a very similar girder load and
LESS bracing than I have now.

In other gondola news, here is my old school G22b filled with **production**
Lanes Trains LCL containers just as the PRR (and some others) had..
http://www.lanestrains.com/G22b_W_Containers.jpg I started shipping some
orders yesterday. I am not shipped complete to me or to all customers yet,
but I am in the home stretch. It was 5 months from project inception to the
start of orders shipping. Not too shabby. You won't get stung with one of my
projects. I deliver...

Thank You,
Bill Lane
