Dear Earl:
In 1990 I received six AM streamlined UP passenger cars. A couple of
years
later I acquired a second set as they will not clear AF switches. After I got
rid of the extra observation car I had a 10 car train: but this is a
long-distance passenger train. Where will my passengers eat.

I started with an undecorated AM coach. (Anything except and obs or a dome
would have worked.) I added sides from Laser Horizons. I asked for thin sides
to be placed over the sides of the AM car. I asked for an all-in-one dinner.
They provided sides for the real UP diner "City of Los Angeles". (I bet you
can't guess what train the prototype ran in!)

I laid the sides onto the coach. Using the sides as a template, I drew the
windows onto the coach where they did not match up. I cut more holes into the
coach with a Dremel, following with files, sandpaper, etc. I applied the
sides. She looked good!

Off to the paint shop! I spray Poly-S paints, undiluted. After washing she
was
primed with Reefer white. I sprayed gray next (Harbor Mist). I masked the
gray
and sprayed yellow (Armour Yellow). I finished the gray ends by brush. I
touched up any other paint errors with a brush. I painted the trucks Bright
Aluminum. Lettering was done from and Enhorning set. This provided the red
stripes. The letters and numbers were pieced together to get "Copper Valley"
"1209".

1201 UP Baggage
1202 UP Coach
1202 UP Coach
1202 UP Coach
1204 UP Vista Dome
1209 UP Diner Laser Horizons (My number)
1203 UP Sleeper
1204 UP Vista Dome
1203 UP Sleeper
1205 UP Observation 10 cars

Since then she has been gracing short sections of track as I do not currently
have a layout.
Thorin
