John,
I have one of the AM units also plus one of the brass units. And there
is a big difference in the two in the detail level, which one would expect.
I use my AM unit at train shows where the simpler version works better.
It has been a good unit overall with a couple of exceptions. The pickup
wheel wipers seem to be very soft so they require frequent reforming. I
need to arrange for some replacements of some kind. For couplers, I
made my own pads then used SHS's Kadee type units. Filling in the
pilots for appearance will happen when I do the wheel wipers. I did
replace the wheelsets with ones from NWSL. Sometimes those middle axles
don't seat on the rail and will cause derailments, but that is operator
error!
