I did not know latex paint would allow moisture in until I read it here
recently. Do acrylic paints have the same characteristic? How about if you
use a Latex primer such as Kilz?
To Thorin's question, I seal all wood kits. If the colors allow, I start with
a light coat of primer, hot rod red or light grey whichever is better for the
top coat. A new technique I have used is to stain the wood with art pens, this
is particularly great when doing windows as there is no build up. I then seal
the wood after with the clear overcoat, Dullcote or Matt Medium. Even if I
prime the wood structure, I seal the top surface just in case.
Thorin, bring kits next time you visit the Twin Cities and bring them by to
work on with us.
