Gentlemen, last night I finished up with rerouting the last of my switch
control wires in my control panel that were the bulk of my "drain
clog". Now I can concentrate of working on the DCC problem. Jack
Troxell who has been our long time mentor here in Houston, had made
beautiful engineering drawing of everything on his layout. Jack had
been in the "oil tool" business and was responsible for many patients
and bringing products to market so those drawings were second nature to
him. In my business a quick sketch, often drawn on a cocktail napkin,
was the usual thing. So therefore many of my wires were run 25 years
ago without a clue!
However to my credit, I did use #12 wire for my buss line, and drops on
every section of track. I decided to keep my rotary switches just for
trouble shooting--it's fairly easy to determine where that
derailed/shorted car is located. A good friend in HO who still uses the
vintage Dynatrol system had a problem. During an open house he had
intermittent shorts, which is always embarrasing. He finally spotted a
guest who kept putting his camera on the rails for low angle shots. At
that time most cameras had cast metal bodies--problem solved!
