"Also, as Dick Karnes recently pointed out, NASG was created by scale
modelers not hi-railers or AF guys and I have to assume they selected the
name."

I'm one of the olde timers and I remember Claud Wade starting up the NASG
with his SSL&S and how everyone who were able helped Claud make up molds
for parts so eventually you could build scale locomotives. That is how it
was back then. Frank Titman was a gigantic force in the S Scale movement, as
were many others, like John Bortz, Dick Karnes, Wally Collins and many
others. Incidentally, I'm told that John Bortz home is being sold as he is
going or is in a home? That sale should be very interesting, anyone know
more about it?

Frank Titman designed the United NASG Logo and many of the diagrams in SSL&S
catalog, but unfortunately, many S Gaugers never really got United! Remember
the BERKSHIRE! I often wondered who had a layout that you could run that
locomotive on?

Boy, those were the days .... I miss them! I have some of John's layout
photographed, but I don't believe I did a good job on the photography that
day. I'll have to look that file up. I remember the gigantic Ore ship and
dock that Frank built for John, perhaps Lee Johnson or Dick Karnes can fill
us in on that? Incidentally, Dick, Lee and other members of the Delaware
Valley S gaugers dug out John's basement, so he could have his model
railroad down there. Literally! The ground went out the casement windows in
buckets! WOW! Now that is devotion to a hobby.

A neat way to have our NASG web site is leaving it like it is now, but place
folders on it, where visitors could go to our S gauge AF or Hi Rail or Scale
or Narrow gauge modeling.

I remain,

a devoted S Gauger,

 Bill Fraley
