On my earlier version of SHABBONA RR, I used hinges and deadbolts for a drop 
down section that worked well. I beveled the rail joints at each end and held 
them in alignment with brass tubing and piano wire. It was probably the best 
working part of the whole layout, thanks to the idea I got from Josh Seltzer 
and his crew with their portable layout at the Pittsburgh MRIA show.

I'm almost glad a move forced me to tear the layout down. Train movements 
across it were smooth as glass. I still have the drop section, complete with a 
#5 crossover mounted on it. I can provide photos if anybody's interested. I 
wrote an article on it (accepted but never published) about twenty years ago. 

I should have sent to to one of the S publications, but I had just brought down 
some Big Game with a couple of submissions and was on a mission. The Big Game 
was still interested in blunt, bumpy rail breaks at moveable sections.
