Understand completely on modeling earlier era's.  My weakness is the 1880's and 
1890's. That was an excellent era during railroading's evolution. Though I do 
not want to tackle that era in S scale (with workbench models I prefer building 
models of equipment I can relate to)... I allow myself to indulge in the 1880's 
and 1890's via V scale. (Virtual scale, i.e. computer simulation.)



In V scale, my link n' pins work great... as does my throttle, Johnson Bar, 
sanders, air brakes, et al!  Gotta' be careful though when decending heavy 
grades (as on my V scale Colorado Midland route)... or you can... umm... uhh... 
"potty" away your air and away you go!  (Ahhhgggghh!!!! LOOK OUT BELOW!!!)
