On my layout I have signals from NJ International which are great, really in
detail design, as I have these in S. they also makes these in O, HO and N.

My lighting in my train room is fluorescent lights, as I do have UV filters on
the bulbs.

The signals work when the light sensors in the track get covered over by a
passing train. There are 2 sensors before and 2 after the roadway crossing.

With the fluorescent lights, the first sensor will not work, only the second
sensor will, as that is right by the crossing, as it acts as the end sensor for
the other direction when a train clears it, for the cross arms to rise up and
lights stop blinking.

Paul of TDP, who makes the servos for the signals told me I needed to put a
incandescent light in the room to warm up the lighting. And that worked.

Now these bulbs are being discontinued starting in January with 100w bulbs and
all the bulbs will be stopped by 2013.

I emailed NJI about this and they said a light is a light meaning that any
light will work with these signals. Yes, but not correctly according to my
experience.

I went back and forth with NJI on this, as I wanted to know if they are going
to make a sensor that works with fluorescent lighting better. No comment.

So, I went out today to Home Depot and got 24 bulbs, as I hope that will last
the rest of my life!!!!!

I think people who have NJI signals, need to do the same, as they will be burn
in time.

I did try the new type of bulb and they do not work with the signals correctly.
