Thanks Bob, as I am fine with using this lamp in the room.  I need the added 
light anyway.

And in doing some research on incandescent bulbs, I did learn that not all 
bulbs are being discontinued, due to them being a specialty type bulb.

3 way bulbs are not being discontinued, so I will be returning these bulbs to 
Home Depot, so all is well again.

Mike, If indeed the sensor is color tempertaure sensitive and when, 
bulbs get scarce--I think I would try and fool the sensor. Find any 
decent photographer in the area and see if you can beg, borrow or steal 
a couple of square inches of a light amber filter. These filters are 
made by companies like Rosco and Lee. They can be obtained in sheet 
sizes. We often cut them up to fit over various light sources so scraps 
will eventually get thrown away. Simply take the filter material and 
glue over the sensor.
