Darrel's point (below) is a moot point when you consider what area are modeled
mostlyin S scale. My point is this...
Sergent makes the following couplers in HO scale :
1. AAR Type E
2. Lower Shelf E
3. Double Shelf Type SE
4. Type F
and
5. Type SF
Now, considering the prototype for these couplers...
The type E has been around for ages... so pretty much everyone has a need for
this type coupler.
The Lower Shelf E came on the scene around 1968... an era that not too many S
scalers model.
The Double Shelf Type SE came along around 1975... yet again, another era that
not too many S scalers model.
The Type F came along around 1954... making it the SECOND coupler variant
offered by Sergent (in HO) that would possibly do well in S.
And the Type SF came along around 1975... making it the 3rd of the 5 versions
of couplers offered by Sergent (in HO) for which there is minimal need in S.
So the fact that Sergent may never offer three of his 5 coupler variations in S
is not a point that should sway one from trying them... unless, of course,
you're a 'MODERN' modeler... which most S scalers are not.

Now tell me this: which of the Kadee look-alike couplers gives you an
extended knuckle that is prototypically correct for tank cars, and several
other types of car? Here they are! You won't even be getting these from
Sargent if and when he ever comes out with his coupler.
