How can that be since he said that I was (and I quote), "wrong on both counts"?

  Ding, dong

You both seem to be arguing the same side of the issue.

  BOING!

I can't speak for whatever issues you're having or have had (with your
trackwork, possibly?)... all I can tell you is that, as a point of fact, I run
code 88 and 110 wheel sets on both my HO and my S models at every operating
session on respective scale layouts without any issues whatsoever.

Come on down south and I'll show you.

   GONG!
You are wrong on both counts. Code 88 Wheels are RP 25 just like Code
110 Wheels. If ALL standards are adhered too the they work just
fine. That means Check Gauge not Back to Back, as BB is a derived
number. OK so it is only a few thou but it is do able.
Now Code 87 is a different matter.

Luckily the code 88 and 110 wheels will both operate on standard
track/turnouts, so one could run 110 on their steam locos and 88 on
  the rest.
