Hi Folks,
Thank you all for participating in the poll. From the poll we should have
enough interest to make this project a go.
The results tonight are votes for 6 Other prototypes, 5 McKeen cars, 11 Brill
cars and 20 EMC/EMD cars.
The baggage - coach with an approximately 70 foot long body is the
configuration most favored.
On the model side, 16 wanted a ready to run model and 17 a one piece body kit.
Summing this up, we are looking for a prototype EMC/EMD car of a baggage -
coach configuration of about 70 plus feet length. The model would be produced
with a one-piece body.
Gerry produced a Chicago Transit elevated car this past year and the details
for it would probably apply to this car. The elevated car came with interior,
floor, lighting, plug for DCC, 2 powered trucks and a one piece body. Painted
bodies were available.
The doodlebug, with trucks, one piece body and the above would cost in the
neighborhood of $450. Using a single powered truck would reduce the price about
$50, while painting would probably be extra. Gerry has said that the price
could come down some if the production run is larger than the minimum required.
For the sake of getting the project off the ground Gerry needs firm orders for
a minimum of 12 cars of the same prototype.
Your job, should you choose to accept it, is to help select a single prototype
and provide or point us to the prototype plans for it.
I have created two folders to help with deciding which prototype to build.
Please add a link or photo of the prototype you would like to see to the
appropriate folder. This way we can all see just what is being suggested and
can refer back to the sources as the discussion moves forward.
Just because I am suggesting a model of an EMC/EMD prototype does not mean that
we cannot have a second or third model produced. If those who are interested in
a different car configuration or a Brill or McKeen model can select a single
prototype and there are enough orders, that one can be a second and or third
doodlebug project.
Projected delivery date would be some time in early 2013 due to the other
projects Gerry has in his pipeline already, but he would like to start the
production process this summer by creating his computer files from the
prototype drawings.
Additional thoughts, anyone?
David
