Bill: I don't know exactly what Lionel will make, but from the strictly prototype POV, the locomotives sold to AT&SF, UP and PRR were absolutely Y3's, not Y6b's. The PRR acquired them in 1943 and there is photographic evidence of them in Columbus with 2-10-4's in July 1947... Is that closer to your era?? <G>
For me it is a bit of a mute point. My interest will be in the SD70, not to mention I have seen no information the Lionel 2-8-8-2's will come with scale drivers - it has only been talked about for the diesels - unless I missed something.
