How exciting! An almost ready to run (just needs rewiring, maybe new wheels,
maybe extra detailing) articulated for $1,000. A covered hopper for $90. So,
one engine, a 15-car train, and perhaps a brass caboose, will run you about
$2,700 for one train.

One issue the scale will have to grapple with in the coming years is the
ability of an aging market to sustain purchases at such high prices. I would
imagine that when Don gets back up and running with a new builder in China (or
elsewhere) that the cost differential between his old prices and the new prices
will be eye-popping.

Many of us may need some attitude adjustment going forward, thinking back to
the days when "Athearn Blue Box" models were the norm in the hobby. American
Models may have the right marketing strategy here - building basic models which
can be detailed if desired.

Just some random thoughts -- the future almost never looks like the past.
