Guess that answers my question.  My, what a transformation, doesn't seem 
possible.

I was more than done with the "if you had been there" thread, but since you 
asked- cheap battery powered trainsets.

The locomotive is seen here. Two of them were the starting point for U36B 2972. 
Considering the effort that entailed, I'm not too put off by the prospect of 
upgrading  its younger cousin 6573 (seen in its out of the box state- forgive 
the couplers). Some of it is definitely more accurate than my handiwork was.
