Bill,
If you gled and screwed it together i hope there wont be any movement sectional
is how my club layout goes together. And like you ours are heavy. I takes 2 to
pick each secton up and 2 to help gide it on our dollies that we use inbetween
our 2  shows we setup at. We are fixing to move it to our new club house space
after we do some remodeling to make it fit. Check out our website to see what
I'm talking about.
                    Thanks,
                                 Alan

Thanks much for all the replies. My wiggle was fixed in about 3 minutes flat.
It would not have been as easily fixed if the track was ballasted.

A few more random points:
All of my frames are made from 12 ply ¾” birch plywood. That is a good thing.
It is painted on the outside edge just for aesthetics – not wood sealing.
Admittedly 15 years ago every visible surface would have been covered most
likely stained. I did not do that now. Every joint is “screwed glued and
tattooed”. 90 degree joints have dado recesses.

My layout would probably be considered “sectional”. I would not call it modular
because it is not built to an established standard like S-Mod. It is currently
11 sections total that are either the 4 curves or 4’ and 8’ long straight
sections.

The deck is ¾ A/C plywood that is also screwed and glued to the frames. With
all this screwing and gluing of better to really good plywood I sort of have a
time believing it could move much. It would have to be a very solid unit

On top of the deck is ½” Homasote screwed and glued to the deck and painted on
the top side. With some of the sections being 8’ long and all this heavy wood
you can see I was not concerned with frequent transport.

On top of the ½” Homasote on the main line tracks is Homabed not glued down. I
did not take my own advice and paint the Homabed. If there is some movement
that is where it probably would be. But clearly this time it was just true rail
expansion.

Not much of the track is soldered together - mostly on the curves. This first
kink was with SHS flex track. I wonder if the size of the rail has any effect
on the expansion. I tried to not go end to end tight on the rails. I guess the
rails will show be where I could have left more space!

Thank You,
Bill Lane
