They are different items but are the same in all parts of the country. They
are both a brand name. Homasote is a sheet product made from some kind of
pressed paper and homabed is a manufactured roadbed product made from the
homasote sheet material. Homasote has been around for a long , long time, and
Homabed was created to take advantage of homasote's popularity with modelers
the difficulty in cutting it without making a fuzzy mess.Homabed saves us work
and waste if we are willing to spend more money. Either one will take spikes
well where they protrude thru the ties on handlaid track, that's a big
advantage over a harder material like plywood that causes them to often bend
