While Don will have the full answer, but I recall the couplers were designed to
fit the F units and give them closer coupling. Being able to have the same
close coupling on the ore cars was accomplished using the SHS couplers. Note
that Don created a new truck with the prototypical correct wheel base for this
truck. It is tight down there as it is on the real thing. I have never tried
Kadee couplers on my string of ore cars, I have never had an issue with the SHS
coupler on the cars.
