I have an Overland S2 that was bought new in 1987. Within a year, the motor
died. Guess it didn't like the point-to-point operation and switching I was
doing at the time...

I took the motor to Des Plaines and found an A-Line Athearn replacement can
motor hanging on a rack(part number lost to history...) that was the exact size
and shape as the Overland motor.

Put the replacement in, it fit perfectly and it's worked fine ever since. I
didn't notice any difference in perfomance.

Motor failures are pretty rare, but they do happen. I also had a SHS SW7(also
bought new back then) motor go out in blaze of pyrotechnic glory within three
orbits of the club modular railroad during a show.

The SHS replacement has also been trouble free since.

Maybe, I better switch to clockwork motors... :-)
