Dear Group,
Our club, the Central Jersey S Scaler's, picked out the prototype for the AM
bay window caboose as a club project. Ron Bashista had asked the club to help
out with the first new plastic caboose in "S". With our profits from the 1988
NASG convention held in New Brunswick, NJ, we started a series of local
railroad freight cars kits made for us by AM. My first choice to present to
the club was the classic Reading caboose that over 50 railroads used (I think 5
or 6 in NJ alone). Of course I was ignoring the fact that this was the same
caboose made by the tens of thousands by ACG. Good buddy Dick Karnes pointed
out this flaw in my choice in a phone call the day before we were supposed to
send in our final choice to Ron B. A lot of research was done rather quickly
by myself and Don DeWitt, an Erie fan and and the person who did all of the
artwork for the caboose and the freight car series. The club decided on a
C301-C350 Erie Caboose. Of course later I found out that this caboose was the
same as the Lionel choice 027....
