The only answer I can provide is that once you have experienced it, you will
want it for yourself. Looks like Trevor is at that stage. Me too.

Those who claim to have flawless operation usually are able to prove their
claim during a 6-hour op session. Perhaps they have some hang-ups at other
times, but their layouts run well during the op session.

The first step is to accept the goal of flawless operation for yourself. Most
of us have not even done that first step. It is not something that will be
accidentally achieved. You will not stumble into it. It requires dedication
and persistence and focus to achieve it. If you want it badly enough, you can
get there. If you do not have it established as a goal, you will not get there.

Flawless operation has nothing to do with visual matters. It is pure
mechanics. Missing details will not matter one whit.

The first question to ask them is: "How large is your layout?" They tend to
quiet down after that.

Nobody ever implied that not having a layout with flawless operation was a sign
of incompetency. It has little to do with competency, but has a lot to do with
setting a goal and then overcoming all the obstacles to achieve it. This
particular goal might not be for everyone, which is fine. Each of us have our
own personal goals and they are probably all different. With different goals,
there are different results.

No criticism of anyone is intended with this diatribe. I am merely pointing
out that flawless operation does exist, some people actually have it, some of
us are actively striving for it and others don't really care that much about
it. No right or wrong anywhere.
