I appreciate the comments everyone is making, and there are good points being
made all around.

Pieter's point about the number of "non-tinplate/non-Flyer" members on this and
other Yahoo S groups is spot-on. It says there are 850 members on this group
(although I saw 1053 on my group listings). There are 767 members on the Sn3
group and 85 on the S scale traction group. Just those three total at least
1,702 members. Assuming that a third of those are unique members (not members
of more than one group), that's 568+ people. If I could add that many
subscribers to the 1:64 Modeling Guide, I would indeed be much happier. And an
increase in subscribers of that amount might also just be enough to get some
more advertisers on board (resulting in more happiness coming my way).

I also agree with Brooks Stover's comments. If increasing the number of S
scale modelers is important for long-term viability, and I believe it is, then
exposure in the "national" model railroad press is most desirable.

I realize there are only so many articles to go around and not everyone is
comfortable with writing. Be that as it may, I also included photos in my call
for material. I have seen some great photos posted on this and other groups.
Imagine the impact it would make in a now all-color "Your PicS" section, not to
mention the front cover.

And who says that only beautiful, finished layouts and models are suitable for
publication? Publishing some under construction photos can be very
instructive, provided that the work area is neat and a brief, informative
caption is included.

At the end of the day, however, RLN Publishing is a business and right now the
1:64 Modeling Guide is its main product. If the revenue it produces can not
cover expenses then sooner or later it must fail, regardless of its quality or
how it's produced and distributed.

On that sobering note, thank you and good night.
