Ed, Just yesterday, a guy dropped off two boxes of HO equipment as a
donation to a club I'm president of. Seems just about all I've seen are
fairly old track items--brass Atlas for instance. He still loves
modeling but doesn't have the room--I suggested joining a club with
modules.
Sometime next week I'll be going to a home of a 19 year old, who has
joined the USAF to serve his country. I remembered him visiting my
layout driven around by his parents. I will be recycling his plywood
and roadbed. His mother says he'll be back in the hobby when he gets
out, so he's keeping the rolling stock and engines.
So you might consider contacting some others who might welcome the wood
and whatever you don't want. The old story about trash and treasure.
In my case, on a Saturday I was at the studio cleaning up, so a trip to
our dumpster was in order. We had a half dozen of those large metal
containers. One contained carpeting that was being trashed. I looked
it over and decided I had found a treasure. It's been in my RR room for
many years and nobody has ever said--"this looks like it came from the
dump".

Hi All,
Thanks to all who responded to my call for advice and help. I'm going
to save all locos and cars of course. I'll also save the turnouts and
flextrack that survive the demolition. All scenery will go except the
trees and buildings that survive. Electrical controls and devices will
be saved but I won't save any wire except long pieces that can be
rolled around a spool of some sort. I'm already thinking about a new
layout built in sections. Now the real work begins!!
