Peter... Agreed. The fun part is always the show & tell at RPM meets. I still haven't figured out how those guys weather their HO diesels to look so bad, especially the Espee SD45's. They really do look as bad as their prototypes.
There is always some ultra-good modeling on display and everyone is quick to tell you HOW they did it. It's mostly HO, but the Year before last, we had seven S scalers at the Savannah RPM. Again, congrats. It's a good way to spread the "S" word to more good HO modelers.
