I'll second Bill's statement. And sometimes people forget that brass is the only reasonable way to produce a model. I also like the people who start with a brass model and are not afraid make something else out of it. Not S scale, but at the National Narrow Gauge Convention last year, I saw a fellow test running a partially completed locomotive on a modular layout. He made a outside-frame 2-8-8-2 from two brass On3 D&RGW K-37's. An articulated narrow gauge locomotive was proposed to the D&RGW by Baldwin, but was never built.
