For what it is worth - I have been using plastic hangers my wife was going to 
dispose of to shim stuff off of the basement floor, in hopes of minimizing 
water damage when I get water in the basement. Next move is to find some old 
plastic shelving that I can shim as a platform for cardboard containers and the 
like. My flooding problems are not nearly on a scale as Fred's, I just want a 
place for the water to flow freely towards the floor drain when it happens.
