I think Michael and Richard are both correct. Scale benefits greatly by having toy-like models available that can easily be converted to scale authentic replicas. No doubt about that. On the other hand, the scale side of S is commonly overlooked or ignored because of the prevalence of AF stuff from years ago. That is unfortunate, but the history of S cannot be changed. However, the IMAGE of S scale can be greatly improved via education and promotion. Which is what the S Sig is working on - education and promotion. Every single registered attendee at the recent NMRA convention received an S Sig flyer in his registration package. The award-winning Michigan modular S gauge/scale layout handed out S Sig flyers and business cards to anyone who stopped by their layout and expressed interest in S. The S Sig web site is now experiencing an uptick in visitors. The S Sig is very serious about promoting the scale side of our hobby to non-S folks and would like to encourage a contribution from everyone to help us with our about-to-be-announced magazine advertising campaign. With more donations, the S Sig can run more ads and bigger ads and more colorful ads. Ads ain't cheap and we all can pitch in together to make an impression on non-S folks everywhere. Now is a good time to help us help you. 100% of all contributions will be spent on promotional activities. Not one dollar for our volunteers. Check out the large green spoked wheel at http://sscale.org/ and see for yourself. The sooner we receive more funding, the sooner our ads will hit the streets. Thanks....Ed Loizeaux Coordinator, S Sig http://sscale.org/
