I had ZERO Amercian Flyer until about 5 years AFTER getting into S Scale in
1985, when I started buying not only Flyonel, but also traditional Gilbert
Flyer. I've also got my fingers into S HiRail.
While I've stopped buying the "traditional" stuff, I do pick up the newer,
scale detailed Flyer stuff whether or not it can be converted totally to scale.
I may just build a HiRail railroad the next time around... I've got the
supplies squirreled away.
If there was "no growth" in the Flyer contingent, Lionel wouldn't keep making
the stuff and MTH wouldn't have bought SHS.
I still do scale, but probably not scale enough for some.
And, I came "up from" HO.
