It was 10 years ago today that I was a part of a very special trip taken
with some very good friends. We headed out for the wilds of West Virginia
for the "No booze or broads - just trains and good friends" trip with the
end of my bachelorhood a mere week away. Jamie Bothwell was most gracious in
every possible way. If I had another friend in my wedding he would have been
it but we kept the wedding party small. 2 friends that were in the wedding
could not attend the trip. Nonetheless Jamie went with us and even did the
driving in his just bought used Ford Escort Station wagon. On the trip down
at about 10:00 PM on dark twisting mountain roads apparently Bambi wanted to
see James new car too, and truly bounced off the fender. In a difference of
a few seconds Bambi would have been on my lap. We just kept driving.

Our destination was to ride Cass and The Durbin Rocket. There was no PRR
anywhere in sight. I rented a condo at a ski lodge which had plenty of
vacancies in August. We goofed because the lodge parking lot was FULL of
deer every morning - probably checking out Jamie's car with the brand new
"deer dent". Jamie surprised me with wrangling cab rides for me in The
Durbin Rocket Heisler and Cass's massive Shay. There is a lot more to
**that** story for another day.

On the 2nd night we went to the lodge's "finer" restaurant - at the top of
the mountain. As fish's out of water we leaned into each other quietly
asking "What is THAT" when looking at the menu - which was all ala carte and
had very few selections. There was no burgers for sure or even Raspberry
Iced tea - a favorite of mine. We learned about "infused potatoes" (MASHED
with garlic - how fancy ) that was $8.00 per bowl. We asked what "infused'
was. We are in backwoods West Virginia getting looks from the waitress like
"where did these guys come from"? Dan had "Wild Game Stew". I don't remember
what everyone else had.

Of the 4 people total 3 were S Scalers. It was a great once in a lifetime
trip. I am truly blessed with good friends that treated me like a King for
the weekend.

Thank You,
