Chicks Hobbies is about 15 minutes from me & is the land "that S Scale
forgot". I have known Chick since I was 13. My 13th birthday present was
bought from him - a AF 312 K5. I had to persuade my Pop to go for the extra
$5.00 to get the "metal engine".

Back when I was involved with the South Jersey S Scalers (Now the South
Jersey S Gaugers) Chick was an active member of the club. Some meetings were
held at his house which is connected to the store. Chick bought in BIG for
American Models and very early SHS items - just lots of stuff. It filled the
1 end of the store. Chick is not a big fan of discounting prices so much of
that stock remained for a long time and might still be there 15+ years
later.

A few years back the store was robbed of trains. Chick was not there which
is strange because he never goes anywhere. Much of the trains that were
taken were S, and most of them were recovered in good condition a few months
later at an apartment in Woodbury which ironically also had a 5 foot
alligator living in the bathtub. Maybe it was the Guard Gator! I can't make
this stuff up!

Chick is truly innovative and handy especially in reworking AF for better
performance. He custom built a crossing using SHS sectional track that
looked like it was made by SHS.

There was a website for a while but Chick did not have interest in it
because he would have to check email more than once a year. Since I am not
much in the market for existing plastic cars especially American models, I
really don't go there. The last I heard he and the store were on a very
semi-retired operating schedule.
