Bill,

Thanks for the update on Chick. A flyer from PRS reported that he had done
some special cars in the B&O blue and orange paint scheme. I called him and
ordered two that I have yet to assemble. That was back in the Nineties. Good
to hear he is still in business.

Bill, your reference to the PRS "Cookie" box cars raises a question. I never
ordered any because I thought that PRS never had the type of car designated by
the D&RGW as "Cookie" box cars. The PRS box cars all had the more common tabed
sills whereas the "Cookie" cars had the continuous sill and, I think, an IH of
10'4" with ends differing from those on the PRS car regardless of IH.

Just a question and now a recommendation: Your REA building is so good that you
should write up what you did to create it and how you did it.

Tom

Subject: {S-Scale List} Chicks Hobbies

Chicks Hobbies is about 15 minutes from me & is the land “that S Scale forgot”.
I have known Chick since I was 13. My 13th birthday present was bought from him
– a AF 312 K5. I had to persuade my Pop to go for the extra $5.00 to get the
“metal engine”.

Back when I was involved with the South Jersey S Scalers (Now the South Jersey
S Gaugers) Chick was an active member of the club. Some meetings were held at
his house which is connected to the store. Chick bought in BIG for American
Models and very early SHS items – just lots of stuff. It filled the 1 end of
the store. Chick is not a big fan of discounting prices so much of t! hat stock
remained for a long time and might still be there 15+ years later.

A few years back the store was robbed of trains. Chick was not there which is
strange because he never goes anywhere. Much of the trains that were taken were
S, and most of them were recovered in good condition a few months later at an
apartment in Woodbury which ironically also had a 5 foot alligator living in
the bathtub. Maybe it was the Guard Gator! I can’t make this stuff up!

Chick is truly innovative and handy especially in reworking AF for better
performance. He custom built a crossi! ng using SHS sectional track that looked
like it was made by SHS.

There was a website for a while but Chick did not have interest in it because
he would have to check email more than once a year. Since I am not much in the
market for existing plastic cars especially American models, I really don’t go
there. The last I heard he and the store were on a very semi-retired operating
schedule.
