Try something with a carbide tip.

      I wonder if a "scaler" from your dentist would work. I asked the 
hygienist for old tools, and she gave me about 10 tools that have since been 
used a lot on the trains. Very hard stainless steel.



Another off the wall idea: use a motor tool with a V-groove bit and router 
attachment, along with a serious dust mask.
