Several years ago SouthWind had offered to import a nickel plated brass version of the original El Capitian. Jettie wanted a shot of the Pecos River 0 scale model to use in his ad. I knew a local modeler who had the Proto 48 version of it. He offered to let me borrow it and meanwhile I obtained several lengths of standard 0 flex track on which to put it--(I'm not aware of RTR Proto 48 track). I was really surprised to find out that the wheels would indeed drop between the rails if you weren't careful.

Um O scale uses 5' gauge track while the prototype is 4'8.5". According to
my math, O scale is only 3.5" too wide while P:48 is right on, like S. Now
if you model the Panama Railroad it was 5' gauge till KCS bought it and
re-gauged it from end to end in 4'8.5". RS-3's for power and an assortment
of American freight cars looked right at home on the old 5' gauge but that's
because I'm used to O scale. :)
