Um O scale uses 5' gauge track while the prototype is 4'8.5".  According to
my math, O scale is only 3.5" too wide while P:48 is right on, like S.  Now
if you model the Panama Railroad it was 5' gauge till KCS bought it and
re-gauged it from end to end in 4'8.5".  RS-3's for power and an assortment
of American freight cars looked right at home on the old 5' gauge but that's
because I'm used to O scale.  :)
