P-48 flanges are just a bit smaller than S scale flanges (about .025 versus
.030)so the P-48 frog should work, might need a few swipes with a file to open
it up a hair. Code 138 rail would be close enough to match SHS track.
As for curved frogs they are only used on tight prototype switches since a
frog is so short in relation to prototype curve radius the difference between a
curved and a straight frog would not make it worth stocking them. The best
practice is to insert a length of straight track into curved switches spanning
the frog by one truck length so the wheels get lined up straight before
entering the frog. If one runs steam the straight should ideally be as long as
the longest rigid flanged loco wheelbase which could make for some very large
frog numbers if close tolerances are desired. Diesels have a big advantage in
this regard, I recall watching SP 4449 inching it's way around the wye at
Watsonville where the largest diesel locos routinely run around in multiple
unit consists....DaveBranum
