I agree wiith you. You have used and have seen the trouble the Protocraft 
coupler can have. I'm sticking with KD's until (????) we see a Sergent "S" 
coupler.

It's not impossible in S it's just harder to get reliable operation from 
prototypical type operating couplers as the size decreases. I've used them in O 
scale and they are troublesome even at that size. Car weight varies a lot 
between O and S scales so one has less mass resisting the manual forces needed 
to lift the pins. Smaller uncoupling levers, tighter track spacing , etc. all 
work against the smaller scales when it comes to hands on operations. Most 2 
rail O scale modelers still use the KD's as their standard. The guys who use 
lift pin operated couplers are mostly P-48 guys who are primarily car modelers 
not layout operators. I doubt the number of S scaler interested in adding cut 
levers to their cars then trying to use them would justify an investment in an 
S version of the protocraft style, I think the Sergent magnetic type is a 
better compromise of ease of use and prototype appearance ........DaveBranum
