From: Alan Lambert Fort Worth, Texas Dave, I agree wiith you. You have used and have seen the trouble the Protocraft coupler can have. I'm sticking with KD's until (????) we see a Sergent "S" coupler. Alan

I've used them in O scale and they are troublesome even at that size. Car weight varies a lot between O and S scales so one has less mass resisting the manual forces needed to lift the pins. Smaller uncoupling levers, tighter track spacing , etc. all work against the smaller scales when it comes to hands on operations. Most 2 rail O scale modelers still use the KD's as their standard. The guys who use lift pin operated couplers are mostly P-48 guys who are primarily car modelers not layout operators. I doubt the number of S scaler interested in adding cut levers to their cars then trying to use them would justify an investment in an S version of the protocraft style, I think the Sergent magnetic type is a better compromise of ease of use and prototype appearance ........DaveBranum
