I just made the basically the same assessment over on my group. I also do not like the drop-in pin that holds the nuckle on. Regardless, it would still leave you with a 1930s era coupler with a hole in the top of the head (for a top-operating cut lever) whether you wanted that or not. So I agree that the Sergent couplers will still be the best way to go once they arrive.
