Until two years ago, in Santa Clara passengers had to walk from the station
across two mainline tracks to get on a northbound train. There are express
trains that didn't stop at that station, but went through at 50 - 60 mph. Now
they have built a subway for pedestrians. I can't even imagine what that cost
to retrofit.

So if you are modelling an era before 2010, you should be OK. But, an elevated
walkway could be a real eye catcher.
