As was mentioned last week, our Houston Club was part of the reopening of the Hurricane Ike destroyed Museum of Commerce and Transportation in Galveston. The next thing to happen is the arrival of two rebuilt F-7's that will happen on Nov 9th with a train from New Orleans to Houston and then the final journey to Galveston on the 10th. So all you railfans can be trackside on those days. Linked below is a short video of them leaving the shops in N.O. In a way it's too bad that Houston's Amtrak station was the former SP station, while the Santa Fe used Union Station which is now our baseball statium called Minute Maid park. However, I understand those two engines are really old SP engines anyhow, so they'll be right at home in the SP station for the night. Their permanent home will be the Santa Fe station in Galveston, at least until the next hurricane!

With donations from Galveston native George Mitchell, two Santa Fe F units have been restored and will pull a special train to Galveston for the grand reopening of the Galveston Railroad Museum. The train will travel from New Orleans to Houston on Nov 9, overnight at the Amtrak station and depart for a round-trip journey to Galveston on Nov 10. Check out the museums website for a short video of the unveiling of the F7s. (They look GREAT!)
