The difference is the relative realism of the two. Tsunami sound other than
the diesel horns is pretty realistically scaled down sound but smoke apparently
doesn't scale down as well based on my observations of smoke equipped
models.Most of them look like little smoke machines instead of model smoking
locos. I suspect that many of the folks who are satisfied with model smoke
systems were not around in the steam era and don't know what a real loco should
smoke like? If I could get an SP narrow gauge #9 loco to smoke black smoke like
the real one I'd certainly enjoy it but I'm not holding my breath in my
smokeless train room waiting for one....DaveBranum
