Yes, we certainly have gone beyond the era of the $5.45 Kinsman kit.
It's tough for an old cheep-skate like me to grasp that. But it seems
like the $60-90 price is now the norm whether it be plastic RTR, resin
or laser kits.
The one WC Soo Line stock car that I own, was acquired second hand and
the prior owner had it custom built. Wisely the builder put a layer of
lead sheeting on the floor. I have saved some sheet lead that was used
on vent stacks on my pre-Ike roof that will come in handy for that
purpose. Bill might be able to cut sheets of that and possibly slip
between the slots.
I started 2 or 3 of the Mainline stock car kits--I still would like to
finish them someday (and yes I did narrow them a bit). They are also
36' in length. It seems as though I read that the cattle chutes were
spaced at 36' intervals, so the cars were built to match. I understand
that the load docks were also spaced, hence the 36' meet reefers held on
for a long time.

Earl,
I emailed the manufacturer who informed me that the kit will sell for
somewhere between $75.00 and $80.00. That includes decals, but I do
not know for sure whether it includes trucks.

The Soo's 29600-29999 series of stock cars were 36' IL. However, what
might be contributing to Pieter's statement is that the cars were only
7'8" IH. The proportions of the model's side do appear similar to the
40' cars, but Bob's suspicions are correct. This kit won't get you a
Soo "Sawtooth Fowler" car.
The jigs shown in the instructions clearly show a lot of consideration
was made for assembly of the kit. Is there a price yet?
