Before Jim Konas, Jr. passed from the scene, I had the privilege of visiting him several times in Berwyn to discuss his modeling techniques and the operations of the old Chicago Great Western. What he accomplished absolutely inspired me. Three of my favorites were a CGW ARA 1923 rivited end box car and a CGW 50-foot double=door box car, both of which had sides from cardstock. They were beautiful. The third car was a CGW General American 70-ton covered hopper from styrene. Top notch. What a modeler!

I suspect, except for cutting out the sides and fabricating the ends, I just built a kit! It turned out OK too. The modern, exterior post cars are perhaps alot easier to scratch than the transition era cars.
