I dug out my H21 parts and did a little more research and IMO the SHS USRA
hopper would make the best candidate for GLa conversion. Inspired, I pulled one
off the shelf and went to work. I have a couple of photos in the group photo
section. I don't know how to link to it but the folder is called "GLa
conversion".

Basically, I filled down the USRA end sill and removed the supports. I then
added back the H21 supports and sill. Since I started with a PRR car, all it
needs is a bit of careful painting and you are done. (Ok, not really)

The brake end will be a bit more tricky since the GLa had a horizontal brake
wheel and the platform is higher. Other things needed are new end stirrups and
the lifting ring. But to me that would be good enough and not a funhouse hack.

Also, depending on the couplers used, there will be some work getting them
mounted. The sill moves things out and the pocket is prototype size making it a
tight fit for some.

So what I can (probably) supply is the end supports and sills.

Note, that I looked at an AM hopper and though the same thing could be done, it
would be much more work to make it a GLa. Particularly redoing all of the
ladders!

Just my opinion.
