Sure, I have several with plugs between the locomotive and tender. It always seems to take some fiddling to get them connected. I also hardwired some and encased the wires in shrink tubing and draped them to try to make them resemble the water hoses between the tender and loco.
I guess if I had a large modern locomotive, I could use the stoker as a conduit. Blackstone's HOn3 locos have a combination drawbar/connector. No wires visible because the drawbar does the function, although it is a little clunky in HO. Blackstone is part of Soundtraxx, but they haven't come out with this as a separate part. (I have one of their K-27's to use the mechanism for a future Sn2 project.)
