Peter,

Where are you going to install the batteries? Are you giving up the cab
interior or will they be in car that is a slave to the switcher?

Thanks

Subject: {S-Scale List} Introduction to the S-CAB System

Group,

This weekend I received my first S-CAB starter bundle. This is a
DCC system that uses radio frequency to communicate DCC commands
from the hand-held throttle to the receiver/decoder bundle
installed in the locomotive (no command station and no DCC signals
via the rail needed). I just uploaded a page to my web site that
describes what you get when you buy the system.

http://pmrr.org/Articles/DCC/Articles__DCC_LVL2_S-CAB.htm

I am going to install it in my S-Helper Service NW2 engine. It
will also use the battery power feature. I'm hoping that I have
some time to work on this during the Christmas holidays. I have
tested the NCE decoder with the hand-held throttle and it worked
great. Once I get it working in that engine, I will publish
another article on my web site. For all the details about the
system, see the page mentioned above.

I am especially excited about the battery operation, because my
track is starting to act up again. The metal polish I mentioned
earlier this year has about run its course. I spent all of
Saturday chasing a short-circuit in my layout. I hadn't run any
trains in a couple of weeks, because I'd been working on
scratchbuilding a couple of structures. When I fired it up, I
immediately got the dreaded 4 beeps from the Digitrax system. I
finally narrowed it down to a one-inch piece of track that
somehow was making contact with its neighboring rail, causing a
short. That section of track had been working flawlessly for
three-plus years! Go figure. It'll be so nice to finally pull
        the plug... literally.

Enjoy,
 - Peter.
